KORT KARES
KORT team members actively support a number of organizations, causes and events in our communities. Our KORT K.A.R.E.S. (Kortesians Always Ready to Engage in Service) initiative seeks to identify and encourage team member participation in various community support activities.
Team members have participated in a number of events most recently including:
KORT Georgetown’s Chad Thompson, DPT, DPT, OCS, participated in the Good Samaritan Free Health Clinic on October 13. They teach and supervise a student physical therapist that sees those who cannot afford health care.
On October 7, 2011, Matt Leach, PT, DPTA, of KORT Fern Creek fame, hung insulation foam in preparation for the installation of vinyl siding on a house on Wilson Ave. The Presbyterian Churches in Louisville are building this house and it is to be completed by the end of the year. Matt will be working on the house again the weekend of November 12.
October 2011. Michelle White, and Cassie Kavanaugh, both of KORT Richmond were part of the PINK games at Madison Central High School and Clark Moore Middle School this last week. All proceeds from the games went to the American Cancer Society.
On October 1, 2011, Amanda Edsell, OTR/L, CHT, participated in a fundraising event called Cheese, Chocolate, & Champagne Fiesta, with a silent auction and walk in New Albany, for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
FEAT's (Families for Effective Autism Treatment) 6th Annual "Outrunning Autism 5K Race and 1 Mile Fun Walk" was held on Sept 24, 2011, at Westport Village shopping center in Louisville KY. KORT’s Beth Meyer and Mindy Hayes had a booth set up offering KORT flyers on stretching education, along with an offer for a complimentary stretching.
Jon Beougher, PT, DPT, KORT English Station, helps lead a ministry through his church that provides a hot breakfast, clothing and toiletry items; and a worship service for homeless men, women, and children once a month at the Waterfront next to Joe's Crab Shack.
Lexington KORT Tates Creek enjoyed participating in the Woodford Wag 5K Run on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Woodford County Park in Versailles, KY. All proceeds go to the Woodford Humane Society.
In December 2010, KORT clinics supported a number of local organizations. KORT Tyler Center collected food and infant/toddler items for St. Michael’s Catholic Church’s Christmas baskets to needy families. KORT Old Brownsboro Center collected donations for the Animal Care Society of Louisville which provides medical care and shelter to homeless animals.
KORT Fern Creek team members were "On the Move" on Saturday, October 2, 2010, participating in the 5K Run/Walk in support of Down Syndrome of Louisville. Funds raised will help provide nationally recognized programming and a new Lifelong Learning Center. Opening in 2011, the new Life Long Learning Center will be the first in the nation to serve the developmental needs of individuals with Down Syndrome. As you can see, they had a blast and finished with smiles on their faces!
In July 2010, Shannon Burke, PTA of KORT Brandenburg, raised $1000 for Special Olympics for a chance to rappel off the 18 story Avenue Apartment building in downtown Louisville. She loved every second of the trip down passing floor after floor on her way back to Mother Earth.
On Saturday, May 22, 2010, over 125 runners and dozens of walkers participated in the KORT-sponsored MayDay 5K Run/Walk held at Freeman Park in E-Town to support Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Kentuckiana. Walkers and runners helped raise nearly $5200 through this event to help young people in our area. On race day, volunteers from Team E-Town, E-Town Admin, friends and family members pitched in and did whatever was needed to ensure the success of this event.

Troy Grubb, Adam Campbell and Bill Cubbage of KORT Spine & Sport raised $1670 for childhood cancer research by shaving their heads as part of St. Baldrick's Day. Their team, "Got PT ATC?" was one of 36 teams representing 290 shavees in Louisville raising money for the St. Baldrick's Foundation on March 14, 2010.
In March 2010, KORT team members participated in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Kentuckiana Bowl for Kids Sake 2010 in Elizabethtown.
In February 2010, our KORT clinics raised $5031.07 for the Haitian Relief work of Doctors Without Borders and Partners in Health through a variety of fun activities in our communities. Our 35 clinics competed to raise the most money and did an exceptional job of helping those affected by this disaster.
