Terri Rutledge
Terri Rutledge came to the Partners clinic for physical therapy after her hip replacement surgery in November. Her hip muscles were so weakened that her pelvis had shifted down causing her right leg to be lower than her left. She had to relearn to properly walk again as the leg shifted back up as therapy strengthened her hip area. Terri was scared to come to physical therapy thinking it would be very painful, but she soon realized that it was physically hard, but not very painful. After 5-12 weeks of physical therapy she had her mobility back, and she laughs when she tells of her exciting experience of dancing for 3 hours, in heels!!!, at her best friend’s wedding shortly after.

Norma McCubbin
Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Program
Norma McCubbin was involved in a car accident two years ago and sustained a neck injury. Her doctor referred her to a neurologist, who found out that she had nerve damage in her neck and recommended a series of 3 epidurals. After the epidurals proved to be unsuccessful, her doctor then referred her to physical therapy at another provider, but she found those visits did not help. As her symptoms were worsening, and the pain extended down her arm, they were keeping her from doing yard work or even ironing her clothes. She decided to go back to see her primary care physician. He then referred her to KORT J-Town Physical Therapy, where she experienced great improvement and is now digging her flower beds and vacuuming without the pain she had experienced before.

Jim Davis
Panes not Pain
A shoulder injury threatened JIM DAVIS's ability to work as a professional glass and mirror installer. The demands of his job, such as lifting large panes of glass often 60 pounds or more, required that his shoulders be in top form. His previous positive experience at KORT led him to choose KORT again for his physical therapy. Kristin Oliverio PT and the team at KORT Shively Center helped restore his shoulder strength and flexibility. Jim plans to work as long as he can and thanks to the treatment he received at KORT Shively, he's now back doing the job he loves.

Billie Jo Donahue
In good hands
BILLIE JO DONAHUE's world turned topsy-turvy after a tumble at an exercise class left her with a broken wrist. The break needed surgery to repair it properly. But, as Billie Jo found out, the surgery was only the beginning of her road to recovery from her injury. In order to regain full strength and function, her surgeon told her, she would need hand therapy.
Billie Jo chose KORT Bardstown for her therapy because KORT therapists had treated her son for athletic injuries in the past. What she didn't anticipate was the unparalleled expertise she would experience from her certified hand therapist, Angela Taylor, OTR/L, CHT of KORT Bardstown.
Under Angie's care and guidance, Billie Jo regained her strength, improved her ability to function, returned to the activities of daily life that her injury had kept her from doing, and found restored faith in being able to return to her job as an assembler.
While the scars will take a while to fade, her fully-functional hand reminds Billie Jo each day of her experience with the certified hand therapists of KORT.

Barbara Stewart
Spins only golf yarns
BARBARA STEWART had her day all planned out: an early breakfast followed by a round of golf with some friends. Yet, she quickly discarded her plans when a vestibular disorder, BPPV, struck that morning without warning. All Barb knew when she woke up that morning was that the room was spinning out of control, she was nauseous, and she couldn't get out of bed for over an hour. She'd had an episode of vertigo years ago and she knew she needed help. She turned to KORT therapist Robin Harrington at KORT Springhurst.
Over the years, Robin had helped Barbara with her back and neck. Robin was the first person that came to mind when Barbara found herself stricken with BPPV. Robin was able to see her just a few hours later on the same day and immediately began vestibular rehabilitation therapy. Her debilitating vertigo disappeared and life quickly returned to normal. Nowadays, Barbara might spin a few yarns out on the golf course but, thanks to Robin and vestibular therapy at KORT, that's the only thing that spins in her life.

Fran and Kim Crumpler
Back in the Saddle again
As horse trainers, Simpsonville residents KIM and FRAN CRUMPLER enjoy actively working with their American Saddlebred horses and Hackney ponies. In the past 25 years, they've won numerous competitions and have developed a reputation for matching amateur riders with well-trained horses, resulting in winning combinations year after year. (That's a photo of Kim and WC Worthy's Top Gun in action at a competition.)
When a diagnosis of spinal stenosis threatened Kim's ability to train, he turned to KORT physical therapist Regina Durbin of KORT English Station. Regina was able to do what others providers couldn't: eliminate Kim's pain for once and for all. Regina's success with Kim led Fran to physical therapy for her back and leg pain. Once again, Regina was able to eliminate pain and teach Fran what she needed to do to remain pain free.
Today, Kim and Fran Crumpler are back in the saddle again and back to doing what they love to do. Listen as they tell their KORT Success Story in the video below.
Mary Huling
Back in Balance
A single step landed MARY HULING on the floor. Unfortunately, she didn't have the muscle strength to get up. After being rescued and learning she had no permanent damage from the fall, Mary resolved to regain her balance and strength so she could continue to live independently.
A "seasoned" citizen, Mary knows the risks associated with aging. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, each year one in three adults age 65 and older falls. Falls account for the most common cause of nonfatal injuries and hospital admissions for trauma. In 2007, 81% of fall deaths were among people 65 and older.
Mary didn't want to be another statistic. She wanted a better, brighter future. So Mary chose KORT Springhurst and KORT physical therapist Dr. Robin Harrington PT, DPT. Balance therapy at KORT allowed Mary to regain her strength and her confidence.
Lori Childs
Has happy feet once again
LORI CHILDS' feet hurt. Plantar Fasciitis and Achilles Tendinitis were cramping the active lifestyle she enjoyed. Achy feet greeted her each morning and stayed with her throughout each day. From sunup to sundown, she began to dread the simple act of walking.
She had people depending on her. Her family needed her. Her patients (she's a nurse) needed her. She needed her feet to be 100% so she could give 100% to those around her.
So, Lori turned to Dr. Tricia Brown at KORT Tates Creek in Lexington. After determining that Lori was a candidate for ASTYM (Augmented Soft Tissue Mobilization), Dr. Brown started ASTYM treatment. Lori's pain quickly subsided and became a distant memory. Dr. Brown and ASTYM helped Lori get back to the life she loves. Just click on the image to hear, in her own words, what ASTYM did for her.

Bob Sanders
Knows what he likes
In 1992, Bill Clinton was elected President, the winter Olympics were held in Albertville, France, and Windows 3.1 was released. And in May, 1992, BOB SANDERS began his daily independent exercise program at the facility that is now KORT Tates Creek in Lexington.
The world has changed a lot since 1992, but one thing that has remained constant is Bob's commitment to daily exercise. He exercises at the clinic each weekday and at home on the weekends. He credits his daily 30-minute exercise routine for helping him maintain his fitness, flexibility, strength and overall health for the past 18 years.
A work injury introduced him to physical therapy many years ago but that's not the reason why continues to choose KORT every day for the past 18 years. As a man who knows what he likes – and what works – Bob chooses KORT for some very simple reasons. Just click on the image to hear, in his own words, his reasons why.

David Borden
Running 10Ks Again
DAVID BORDEN had been suffering from hip pain for 6 months, but still continued to run until the pain was unbearable.
David was referred to physical therapy and he began his PT at KORT Winchester Clinic in Sept. 2009 with Clinic Director James Escaloni, PT. Recognizing that stretching his tight muscles from years of running, performing manual therapy to his hip joints, and strengthening muscles along the pelvic girdle could help David, James immediately started treatment.
"I was amazed that after the second visit the shooting pain down my leg was not as severe and after the fourth visit it was not even noticeable," said David. "It was the first time in months that I had some relief when running. After my sixth visit, I ran in a 10K Run in Bowling Green free of pain."
James saw David after the race for his final visit to give him stretching exercises and ongoing care education so David can continue to manage his condition on his own.
"My experience at KORT Winchester PT was SUCCESSFUL and I could not have gotten to this point without the help of my Physical Therapist, James Escaloni."
Ronnie Brown
Playing to His Strengths
After 36 years working in the steel industry, RONNIE BROWN was used to being on his feet all day long. When complications of diabetes prompted the amputation of his lower left leg, Ronnie found himself in unfamiliar territory, with limited mobility, and unable to take his grandchildren to the park.
Then he met Hilbert Potter, PT and the LEAP Program.
In 1990, Hilbert was a soldier deployed to the Persian Gulf as part of Desert Storm. One day, as he was helping Iraqi citizens in his duties as a medic, machine gun fire severed his right leg. He became a casualty of war but he didn't let his injury stop him from living.
After completing rehab at Fort Knox's Ireland Medical Center, Hilbert decided he would transform his wartime experience of injury and loss into a career as a physical therapist.
Hilbert developed the Lower Extremity Amputee Program (LEAP) as a way of helping prosthetic patients learn to do more than just walk with their artificial limb. With LEAP, Ronnie learned how to reclaim his gait, increase his flexibility, and strengthen his muscles.
Hilbert was instrumental in helping Ronnie realize what he could do with a prosthetic limb, helping Ronnie properly adjust his leg, walk more easily and confidently, and comfortably enjoy his new leg.
"Hilbert has been very inspirational for me," says Ronnie.
Thanks to the LEAP program, Ronnie now walks his neighborhood each day and he has returned to his hobby of fixing things. Most of all, he enjoys playing with his grandkids in the park every chance he gets.
Bonnie Morton
From Dizzy to Delighted
BONNIE MORTON suffered with muscle weakness, dizziness, and a fear of falling for many years. She especially dreaded going to the dentist because of the slant of the dental chair aggravated her symptoms causing pain and discomfort. After hearing her story, her physician recommended physical therapy for treatment of her balance and coordination deficits.
Bonnie chose KORT Nicholasville and began her treatment under the care of physical therapist A.J. Grzesiak, PT, DPT.
"On her first visit, she reported dizziness and vertigo-type symptoms," said Dr. Grzesiak. "I also observed some abnormality in her static and dynamic balance tests. I contacted her physician to relay my findings and obtained a prescription to treat vestibular dysfunction. On her second visit, I performed vestibular testing, particularly the Dix-Hallpike maneuver, and then progressed to an evidence-based vestibular rehabilitation treatment plan."
Bonnie was amazed with the results. After just two visits, she felt significantly better and she completed her treatment after only 6 visits. Then, for the first time in years, she was able to lie back in the dentist chair with NO Dizziness! She was so delighted that she phoned A.J. to share her exciting news and to express her gratitude.
"I couldn't have gotten better without you," remarked Bonnie. "Thank you for improving my quality of life!"
