All Services Success Stories

Troy Cook

Pennsylvania-based opera singer Troy Cook came to Louisville to perform "The Pirates of Penzance" following surgery on his right wrist to repair a fracture and thumb ligament tear. Before visiting us, Troy had a custom orthosis to support his wrist and thumb. Once in Kentucky, he visited our center and worked with our occupational therapist because he still had some lingering issues. He was diagnosed with a sagittal band injury, which caused swelling in his knuckles. After being diagnosed, a second splint was fabricated to help Troy better immobilize the injury and allow it to heal. The splint that our center created was even seen on stage when Troy performed. We're glad we were able to assist you in your recovery, even if you were a long way from home, Troy!

Grace Warner

Second-year medical student Grace Warner fell down the stairs with a ceramic mug in her hand. The mug severed both tendons in Grace's right hand. Post-tendon repair, Grace turned to Occupational Therapist Barbara Harmon-Cowherd for care. Grace had to work on writing and typing differently. Her everyday activities were challenging. She also feared that this could impact her desire to become a physician. "Barbara was my therapist throughout my entire healing journey, and I'm so thankful that she was," Grace said. "She could not only gauge my progress of my therapy by how I held my hand when I walked through the door, but she could also simply read me like a book. She's the reason why I can move my finger today." Thank you for trusting us with your care, Grace. We look forward to seeing you go on to become a physician!
